The Childish Grown-Up's
Romeo and Juliet Act 1: Scenes 1, 2, & 3

PROMPT D
Scene 1.1- "Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?" I really found this excerpt from the story interesting because it shows how the times have changed. Back in the day when Shakespeare wrote this story, biting your thumb could be extremely offensive, like flipping someone off today. If you were to bite your thumb today, you would probably be laughed at. This quote sums up the substantial differences in times and in culture, and how an offensive gesture can become one laughed at.

PROMPT E
I chose this image because I felt it adequately described the scene where the two families get into a massive brawl. They are fighting over something frivolous, just like the kids in the picture, and even though they are adults, their actions make them seem quite childish. Like the mom in the picture, Prince Escalus is very upset by the fighting and wants to put an end to it.

  1. I think that your picture represents the struggle for affection in the book really well, but who are the two fighting.

  2. I like how your picture resembles what the two characters in the play probably looked like as they were fighting.
