Act II, Scenes i, ii, iii, iv, & v
Prompt F: Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio
These three men in this play may seem to hate each other, boldly yelling rude comments at each other, yet they actually are great friends. In scene one, for example, Mercutio yells a series of offensive comments towards Romeo.
- "'Twould anger him
- To raise a spirit in his mistress' circle
- Of some strange nature, letting it there stand
- Till she had laid it and conjured it down."
Mercutio yells this to anger Romeo, yet in a playful way. If you have ever jokingly made a curt comment at your friends expense, you would understand the situation. Mercutio sends a message to Romeo, hoping to anger Romeo, so that he would come out of hiding and confront him. While it may seem that he hates Romeo, he is just a good friend, joking with his pal.
Prompt G: Romeo
O! The fear I had. All shed loose, now that I know i have her heart. But yet some fear still remains, a tiny bit, that I will be killed by the Capulets. It is not a large fear, but it nags at the corner of my mind, every single moment of my day. I feel I should come out, that I should tell the Capulets I am to marry Juliet and that I am one of them now. But the same fear nags at me, keeping me from doing it.
