Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scenes 4-5

PROMPT A
Romeo, Mercutio, Benvolio, and other masked guests are gathered outside the Capulet's home. Romeo is hesitant to join the party because he had a dream concerning what his fate might be. Determined to brighten Romeo's mood, Mercutio decides to ramble about Romeo's statements of love and turns them into sexual jokes. Benvolio remind his companions that they are going to be late if they continue to delay and so they enter the feast. As the dancing begins, Romeo catches sight of Juliet and is immediately fascinated by her. However, Tybalt, the kinsman to the Capulets, recognizes Romeo's voice and sends for Lord Capulet in fury that a Montague has gatecrashed their party. Fortunately, Lord Capulet does not wish to start a commotion at his party and restrains Tybalt from sending for the sword. Romeo and Juliet instantly fall in love, and are saddened to be informed by the nurse that they are family rivals.

PROMPT F
I feel that Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio have a very strong and loyal friendship because they are supportive of one another in times of difficulty. In scenes one and two, Benvolio supports Romeo when he is sulking in his sea of thoughts of never finding love because Rosaline confronted him about no longer loving him. When the opportunity arises so that Romeo can patch things up with Rosaline, Benvolio completely encourages that they do whatever necessary so Romeo can be joyous once again. Romeo decides he must go to the feast to remind Rosaline why they fell in love. Mercutio also saves Romeo from drowning in his thoughts again when Romeo is reluctant to join the feast because of a dream that he claims determines his fate. Mercutio goes on to babble about how silly Romeo's hesitations are and uses jokes to make him realize that he is worrying too much. Benvolio interupts and exclaims that if they do not proceed to the gathering now, they will be late. Together, Mercutio and Benvolio ensure that Romeo participates in the party in order to eject him from his endless rabbit hole.
